Hedge planting & laying
Maintenance of hedgerows is an integral part of any good farming practice. In addition to forming an impenetrable barrier to sheep and cattle, well-managed hedgerows are thick, bushy and become a haven for wildlife. They also add considerable aesthetic value to the countryside and our environment.

Hedgerows can be managed through a variety of techniques, including laying, trimming and coppicing. Hedge laying tidies hedgerows and encourages regeneration, which keeps the hedge healthy, meaning it will remain in good condition for many years with regular trimming.

Where hedges have not been maintained for many years, it may be necessary to infill with new planting. Similarly, where hedgerows have been removed in the past, new ones can be recreated. New plants can be laid with many varieties to suit the local landscape, therefore encouraging different wildlife species to repopulate.
